Anam Cara Geelong has secured bipartisan support in the form of a $5 million funding commitment from Labor, that will go towards a new 20-bed purpose-built Geelong Hospice following a visit by the opposition to Anam Cara House Geelong.
Member for Corio Richard Marles MP, Labor Candidate for Corangamite Libby Coker and Member for Ballarat and Shadow Minister for Health Catherine King MP visited during the Day Hopsice Program and spent time talking with Day Hospice guests, staff and volunteers before answering questions from local media representatives.

Anam Cara Geelong is celebrating the tremendous news of a $5 million funding commitment from the Federal Government, if the coalition is successful at the July 2 election, to help build a new 20-bed, purpose-built community hospice on a new site at Armstrong Creek.
The Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson made the announcement on Tuesday, May 24 when he and Ms Henderson MP visited Geelong to discuss the project with Anam Cara Geelong Board Chair Diana Taylor, CEO Helen Hunter, Health Operations Manager Gill Robertson, Anam Cara Ambassador Bob Gartland and Patron Frank Costa AO.
A community-funded, independent, non-denominational organisation, we support people with chronic and life-limiting illness, their carers and families in the following ways:
Operating on Tuesdays and Thursdays, day respite gives carers a much-needed break while their loved one is cared for by a RN1 registered nurse and a dedicated team of volunteers who have each completed Palliative Care Victoria's volunteer training program. This is a free service.
A fully accredited yet home-like environment, our heritage-listed house provides holistic, person-centred care by RN1 registered nursing staff, supported by dedicated and caring volunteers who have each completed Palliative Care Victoria's volunteer training program. Referrals can be made by any individual, family member, doctor, treating specialist or a community service provider.
Low-cost bed and breakfast accommodation in our heritage-listed house is available to carers and families of end-of-life and overnight respite guests; as well as carers and families who have a loved one at one of Geelong's nearby hospitals - St John of God, University Hospital or Geelong Private.
* Please note: Carers' accommodation may not be suitable for those with limited mobility or families with young children.
